This is one of the author's nonfiction works and depicts the Korea of the time discussing the politics, history, leisure activities, art and various other aspects of Korean life and culture. There is considerable focus on Korean women in the book which contrasts with most male writers of the time who tended to overlook the contributions of women to society. Although there is great detail in parts of the book, the author is not believed to have visited the country herself. She acknowledges in the early pages of the book that she instead drew on information provided by a friend, Mrs. Helen Q., who had visited Korea. [Suggest a different description.]
