Description:

As Other Men Are is a 1925 collection of short stories originally published in The Windsor Magazine.

There are ten short stories, each titled for a male character. Many of the stories center on the relations between an out of luck ex-officer of the Great War and a wealthy woman.

Somewhat romantic, the female characters are not particularly nice - possibly influenced by the writer's marital woes. [Suggest a different description.]

Author Image

Cecil William Mercer (1885-1960), better known by his pen-name, Dornford Yates, was a British author. Trained as a lawyer, he turned to writing in the 1920s. He is best known for a series of books featuring playboy Berry Pleydell. These books described Berry's wealthy, indolent life and his circle of friends. The books were very popular in the interwar years. Mercer also wrote a series of international thrillers centred around Richard Chandos, a suave crime solving detective. His work was influenced by the writings of Anthony Hope who was his uncle. (Chambers Biographical Dictionary)
