Author Bio for Ayres, Ruby Mildred
Ruby Mildred Ayres (1881-1955) was a British romance novelist. Born in Watford, England. She started writing at a young age and was purportedly expelled from school at the age of 15 for writing an "advanced" love story. She published her first novel in 1912. Over the course of her career she wrote over 135 novels. In the late 1930's she was critiqued by poet W.H. Auden as being proto-Fascist. This was largely due to her romantic portrayal of men in wartime in the role as soldier-hero. (Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, English Fiction and Drama of the Great War)
