Description:

The straitlaced, conservative little town of Roslyn was shocked when Victoria Gracen opened her home to young Dick Gracen. Oh, they understood that he had just lost his mother and he needed a home . . . but everyone knew that Dick was a hopeless case—a reckless troublemaker who they were sure would bring gentle, lovely Victoria nothing but grief. Victoria ignored their dire predictions. Instead, she set about to tame the boy's wild ways with tenderness and faith. Everyone knew she would fail . . . but they hadn't counted on one thing: It would take a heart of stone to resist Victoria Gracen!—Goodreads [Suggest a different description.]

Author Bio for Hill, Grace Livingston

Author Image

Grace Livingston Hill (1865-1947) was the daughter of a clergyman. Writing novels was considered an acceptable way for a woman to earn money, so at the age of twenty-two she wrote her first novel, A Chautauqua Idyl and continued to write after her marriage to a clergyman—mostly short stories; articles for magazines; and Sunday School lessons. Novels became her focus after she was widowed. The original target audience was those of the Christian faith, however her later writings were aimed wider afield. She wrote prolifically under both her own name and using the pseudonym Marcia MacDonald. After her first marriage she appended her husband's surname, Hill, to hers. Following his death, she remarried and appended her second husband's surname, Lutz, to hers but she dropped it after they had parted ways.
