Herbert George de Lisser CMG (1878-1944) was a prolific Jamaican author, journalist and playwright. He began his career in the newspaper business becoming editor of the Jamaican Daily Gleaner in 1904 and remaining in the editor's chair until 1944. He wrote several articles for the paper every day. He began publishing his own annual magazine, Planter's Punch, in 1920 and published several of his novels through the magazine. He began writing novels in 1913.
