Author Bio for Campbell, Grace

Grace Campbell (1895-1963) was a Canadian teacher and writer. She was born on a farm near Williamstown, Ontario. She was educated at Queen's University and became a teacher. She married Reverend Harvey Campbell in 1919 and together they had three sons, two of whom were twins. She started writing novels in 1942 beginning with the Thorn-apple Tree. It was a historical novel about pioneer farmers in Eastern Ontario. History remained a theme in all of her novels, something she was known for. In 1944, the twin sons, Alexander and Robert were killed fighting in World War II. The loss of her sons also influenced her later books. She died in Niagara-On-the-Lake in 1963.
