Author Bio for Gilman, LaSelle

Laselle Gilman (1908-1964) was an American author and journalist. His novels all relate to China; his material for all of them was largely the result of first-hand experience, since he spent fifteen years as a newsman in New Zealand, the South Pacific islands, Hawaii and the Far East. He had been news editor of the China Press, city editor of the Shanghai Evening Post, Peiping correspondent of a U.S. news-feature syndicate and of Canadian papers, and covered the major phases of the Sino-Japanese fighting from Mongolia to Southeast Asia, as well as the pre-war rise of the Chinese communists. As city editor of the Honolulu Advertiser, Mr. Gilman was present at Pearl Harbor and subsequently served as a war correspondent in island-hopping campaigns with the Pacific Fleet and Army units for NBC, Collier's and Reuters Agency.
