| Description: | The play is set during one night, among rebels fighting hopelessly to prevent Taos from being absorbed into the United States, as the rest of New Mexico had been. Anderson depicts the imperialism of the Americans and the patriarchal culture of the Mexicans, but the play soon becomes a study of the tyrannical control of Pablo Montoya, the rebel leader with a soap opera problem: His two sons are in love with his two women, the older with the one he is about to ditch, and the younger with the one he is about to marry.—New York Times [Suggest a different description.] |

Author Bio for Anderson, Maxwell
Maxwell Anderson was an American playwright, poet, and journalist. He won a Pulitzer Prize in Drama in 1933, for Both Your Houses, and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for both Winterset and High Tor.
Several of his plays were adapted into successful movies, including Anne of a Thousand Days and Key Largo.
Author Bio for Jones, Robert Edmond
Robert Edmond Jones (1887-1954) was an American scenic, lighting, and costume designer. He is credited with incorporating the new stagecraft into the American drama. His designs sought to integrate scenic elements into the storytelling instead of having them stand separate and indifferent from the play's action. His visual style, often referred to as simplified realism, combined bold vivid use of color and simple, yet dramatic, lighting.—Wikipedia
