Irma Rombauer (1877–1962) was an American cookbook author, best known for The Joy of Cooking (1931), one of the world's most widely read cookbooks. Irma Rombauer participated in the activities of civic and cultural organizations, and she took pleasure in entertaining both small informal and larger formal gatherings. Following her husband’s death in 1931, Irma Rombauer began to develop the book, and its subsequent success provided her with financial security, and fame. Many subsequent revisions of The Joy of Cooking have been published since Irma’s death as it has kept pace with changing times.—adapted from Wikipedia
