Author Bio for Leblond de Brumath, Adrien
Born in Sélestat, France, on April 16, 1854, Adrien Leblond de Brumath was the son of Pascal-Auguste Leblond de Brumath and Marie-Clarinda-Félicité-Blanche Disput.
Leblond de Brumath studied with the Jesuits and earned a bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Law at the University of France. He then attended the Saumur Cavalry School.
This former cuirassier emigrated to the province of Quebec, more precisely to Montreal, in 1877. He devoted his life to teaching. First a teacher at the Montcalm school for twenty years, he was later director of the Plateau school for approximately thirty years. He was then responsible for exam preparation courses. He also worked as a private tutor throughout his career.
In addition to his teaching career, Leblond de Brumath was interested in history. He was also a correspondent for the Geographical Society of Lille, one of the most important French learned societies.
He was the author of several school textbooks and biographical and historical works, including Jeanne Mance (1883), Jean-Jacques Olier (1884), Monseigneur Ignace Bourget, Archbishop of Marianopolis (1885), Popular History of Montreal from its Origins to the Present Day (1890), Outline of the History of Canada for the Use of Primary Schools (1895), The Golden Book of the Catholic Commercial Academy of Montreal (1906) and History of France for the Use of Schools in the Province of Quebec (1912).
He died in Montreal on May 3, 1939.
He had married in Montreal in 1879, Marie-Philomène-Julia Nolin, daughter of Joseph-Hubert-Frédéric Nolin and Elizabert-Eléonore Morrisson.
