He was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he attended university and began his working life with a local newspaper. He was intelligent, personable, witty, and had a zest for life. He was an avid reader and in some of his letters mentions and comments on books he has read and his desire to become an author himself. He valued family and friends.
