Author Bio for Notman, William

William Notman (1826-1891) was a Canadian photographer. Starting out as an amateur photographer, he established the firm William Notman & Sons. Along with his two sons, William and Charles, the company flourished and the family became quite wealthy. They took pictures of people and landscapes and over the course of their careers amassed thousands of photographs, a visual chronicle of their time. The collection now resides at McGill University.
