Alexander Maitland Stephen (1882-1942) was a Canadian writer of poetry and novels. Born in Hanover, Ontario, he went west as a young man. He practised that profession until World War I when he enlisted in the army. He was wounded in France. After the war he got a job in journalism, editing for the Western Tribune. He became politically active and raised funds for the Republicans fighting in Spain against the fascists.
