Author Bio for Richmond, Grace S.

Grace Richmond (1866-1959) was an American writer. Born Grace Smith in Rhode Island, she was married at a young age to Nelson Richmond with whom she had four children. Fresh from raising a family she soon began to write. Her first short story was published in 1891. She continued to write throughout her life producing 27 novels. Her themes tended towards romance which centered on idyllic characters. The New York Herald Tribune remarked that "Richmond makes all her people handsome and interesting and angelic." The New York Times said, "such paragons of beauty and behavior that they hardly seem to belong to the naughty world that most of us know." Despite this criticism, her books were quite popular, especially in England. (Twentieth century authors: a biographical dictionary of modern literature)
