Author Bio for Le May, Pamphile
Pamphile Le May (1837-1918) was a French-Canadian poet and writer. He was born in St-Louis-de-Lotbinière, the son of a farmer. Trained as a lawyer, he worked mainly as a civil servant notably as parliamentary librarian for the Quebec government. He started writing poetry in 1865, his most notable success was "Les gouttelettes", a collection of sonnets written in 1904. More recently his prose has gained attention. "Contes vrais" tells a tale with vivid descriptions of supernatural and fantastic elements. Le May is also known for his translation of William Kirby's "The Golden Dog" which in French is titled "Le chien d'or". (Oxford Companion to Canadian Literature)
