John Stevens Cabot Abbott (1805-1877) was an American pastor and historian. Born in Maine, he studied theology and became a minister for the Congregational Church in New England. After finding success at publishing, he concentrated on writing after 1844. He wrote several popular historical books including "History of Napoleon Bonaparte" and "History of the Civil War in America". (A Short Biographical Dictionary of English Literature)
